Emergency Medicine Physicians (EMP) has given $150,000 to support a history-making documentary produced by the Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association (EMRA). Given as part of EMRA’s $500,000 Legacy Initiative, the gift is the leading contribution to the organization’s inaugural film project, which will chronicle the intriguing story of the field of emergency medicine.
“EMP is passionate about emergency medicine and is excited about the future our specialty plays in the health care environment nationwide,” said Dr. Dominic Bagnoli Jr., chief executive officer of the Ohio-based company. “The Legacy Initiative tells the story of emergency medicine. Not only will this important project help capture the history of our specialty and its heroes, it also will provide great insight into our profession. We are proud to support EMRA’s project, and are extremely excited to be involved as the lead Platinum Sponsor.”
Established in 1992, Emergency Medicine Physicians is a 100 percent physician-owned and -managed group that treats nearly three million emergency medicine patients each year in 60 locations nationwide.
EMRA created and provided seed funding for the Legacy Initiative as a definitive way to archive the history of emergency medicine and the pioneering spirit of its founders. The project, which will culminate in a one-hour documentary, will feature interviews with the physicians who founded emergency medicine, interwoven with historical footage of emergency care spanning the last five decades. Legacy will explore the evolution of the specialty – as seen through the eyes of its heroes and visionaries – while examining some of the pressing issues faced by those currently in the field.
Based in Irving, Tex., EMRA is the largest and oldest independent medical resident organization in the world. Founded in 1974, the organization today boasts a membership of nearly 12,000 residents, medical students, and alumni – making it the second-largest organization in the house of emergency medicine. EMRA strives to promote excellence in patient care through the education and development of emergency medicine residency-trained physicians.
