JumpstART (2-8 yrs)

JumpstART is a joint partnership with the Irving Arts Center and Irving Public Library.

Explore new stories, fun art projects and a variety of exhibitions during this fun story time that combines art and children's literature. Each month a new theme is introduced that ties into an exhibition at the Irving Arts Center. Following JumpstART, create a take-home art project and then browse the galleries with your kids as part of this fun AND FREE morning activity. Ages 2 and up. All supplies provided.

Join us the first or second Thursday of each month, September through May at 10 a.m. at the Irving Arts Center!

 JumpstART 2014-2015 Events:

September 11- "It’s a (David) Small World"
David Small’s books (Imogene’s Antlers, So, You Want to Be President?, Once Upon a Banana and more) are featured this month in conjunction with “A David Small World,” an exhibition of original artwork by this Caldecott winning illustrator and author on display at the Arts Center.

October 9 -"K is for Kindness"
Celebrate Irving Public Library’s 9th Annual Big Read and enjoy heartwarming stories about tolerance and caring for others.

November 6th "Junie B. & Friends"
Join us to read some of our favorite books about plucky young female characters as we get ready to welcome Junie B. Jones to the Arts Center Nov. 14 in the live theatrical performance of “Junie B.: Jingle Bells, Batman Smells.”

December 4-"Who’s Your Llama"?
Anna Dewdney’s Llama Llama series is featured this month in conjunction with the exhibition, Peruvian Gold: Ancient Treasures Unearthed at the Irving Arts Center.

January 8 -"Happy Birthday A. A. Milne" (Winnie the Pooh Day!)
Let’ s read stories about the beloved bear from the Hundred Acre Wood and celebrate author A. A. Milne’s birthday!

February 5 -"Valentine’s Day"
Candy, chocolate, friends, cards! What’s not to love about this special day?

March 5 –" Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss"!
Green eggs and ham, anyone?, Join us to celebrate the legendary author and illustrator of such classics as Horton Hears a Who, Cat in the Hat , The Grinch Who Stole Christmas and The Lorax.

April 2 – "Spring Has Sprung"!
Flowers are blooming and the birds are singing … join us to welcome the season with storytelling and a craft project

May 7–" Moms Are Amazing"
Mothers are the inspiration for this month’s stories and art.
