City Changes Drought Plan, Watering Restrictions

Beginning Sept 1, City of Irving residents can water twice per week on designated days.

The City of Irving has moved its drought plan from a 5-stage to a 3-stage plan. This simplified plan allows the following:

Stage 1 irrigation is permitted for residents and businesses up to twice per week on designated days. This plan goes into effect Sept. 1.

Residents and businesses:

Tuesday/Saturday — Even Numbered Addresses (addresses ending in 0,2,4,6,8).

Sunday/Wednesday — Odd Numbered Addresses (addresses ending in 1,3,5,7,9).

• Additionally, for one hour on any day, residents can use a hand-held hose with a positive shutoff spray nozzle to water.

Stage 2 irrigation is permitted for residents and businesses up to one time per week on a designated day:

Residents:

Saturday — Even Numbered Addresses (addresses ending in 0,2,4,6,8).

Sunday — Odd Numbered Addresses (addresses ending in 1,3,5,7,9).

• Residents can use a hand-held hose with a positive shutoff spray nozzle to water up to one hour on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Saturday.

Businesses and Multifamily:

Tuesday — Even Numbered Addresses (addresses ending in 0,2,4,6,8).

Wednesday — Odd Numbered Addresses (addresses ending in 1,3,5,7,9).

Stage 3 prohibits all irrigation.

Stage 1 (twice-per-week) watering restrictions are effective Sept. 1, 2014. The current level of restriction can always be found on the city’s web site (www.cityofirving.org). No irrigation is permitted on Monday, Thursday or Friday; time-of-day restrictions are in effect from April 1 through October 31 every year and prohibit watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. When drought conditions subside and no drought stage is in effect, irrigation is allowed year-round up to twice per week.

Cooperation with restrictions will help ensure water is available for domestic use, sanitation and fire protection. Violators of any drought stage restrictions or water conservation measures are subject to fines of up to $2,000 per violation. For more information visit the Water Utilities page on the city’s website or call (972) 721-2281.
