WHO:
Pathways—A non-profit training organization based on helping people overcome barriers that keep them from living a life of passion, purpose and joy. Dr. Phil McGraw designed the self-empowerment training curriculum in 1985, which is utilized at the Las Colinas based organization. The training programs coach individuals, families and special groups such as the military, adults and families of special needs children and also those who have battled cancer or have been the primary caregiver of those with cancer. McGraw left a legacy that is pursued by community leaders and volunteer board members, which builds lives of significance and communities of hope.
Mike Farris, Headline Entertainer—Accomplished singer and songwriter whose personal story of addiction and recovery inspires others and aligns with the mission of Pathways. Mike is the 2008 winner of the coveted Americana Music Association’s New and Emerging Artist of the Year and the 2010 Dove Award forTraditional Gospel Album of the Year. He’s performed at SxSW, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival and opened for Patti LaBelle, Mavis Staples, Blind Boys of Alabama, Ricky Skaggs and Bruce Hornsby. Mike also participated in the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame’s 16th Annual American Music Masters concert honoring Aretha Franklin, the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame and more. He was also the front man of the Screamin’ Cheetah Wheelies who celebrated a Billboard top 10 hit with “Shakin’ the Blues.” Compass Records Group will release Mike’s latest release entitled ‘Shine For All The People’ on September 16th 2014, which will include both original material and Farris' trademark interpretations of traditional gospel that is steeped in the influence of rock, vintage Memphis soul and the “swagger” of New Orleans. This is the second time Mike has performed at the Matters of the Heart Gala, as he is a strong supporter of Pathways’ pursuits.
Benay & Logan— A country duo, which debuted in 2012 after years of songwriting behind the scenes. These two natives from Rio City produce classic country sounds with a backwoods vibe. Their strong vocals and rich harmonies on their first EP titled “One More for the Wheels”, released in May 2014, have garnered a loyal following across Texas and beyond.

Through the funds and awareness raised by the annual Matters of the Heart Gala, Pathways is able to further strengthen and offer their programs and training to those who seek to build self-esteem, confidence and personal power, to raise emotional intelligence, maturity and heal emotional wounds, to develop skills to resolve relationship issues, to find purpose, to change destructive habits into positive ones, improve relationships with family, friends and colleagues, to develop authentic, heartfelt communication skills, to define core values and beliefs, to focus on professional goals, to become a better parent, and to restore faith in humanity.
