Try becoming a Friend of The Library

Libraries all across the United States will be celebrating their Friends of the Library group as part of the ninth annual National Friends of Libraries Week. The Friends of the Irving Public Library was formed in February 1975. In February 2015, we will have been a vital and active part of the Irving Library for 40 years!

During those 40 years our membership has grown to almost 600 members. We would like to set our goal of making our 40th year our best by adding an additional 100 members. Members can be proud of what being a “Friend” means for our library and community. Membership has its benefits as well.

What is the purpose of the Friends?

  1. To maintain an organization of persons interested in libraries; focus public attention on the library
  2. Stimulate the use of the library’s resources and services; receive and encourage gifts, endowments and bequests to the library;
  3. Support and cooperate with the library in developing library services and facilities for the community
  4. To support the freedom to read as expressed in the American Library Association Bill of Rights.

What benefits do the Friends provide the Library?

Our annual contributions average in excess of $50,000 per year for library resources and programs.

What does it take to be a member of the Friends?

Annual memberships are as low as just $15.00 for an individual, $25.00 for families, $100.00 Patron membership and $250.00 lifetime.

How can I benefit from becoming a member of the Friends?

Members enjoy the pride of being a supporter of the library. Opportunities are available for volunteer service within Friends fundraising programs. Members can shop exclusively at the 1st Wednesday Members Only Book Sales and preview night prior to the Annual Book Sale.

What better time would there to celebrate National Friends Week than during our month long, citywide “Big Read” celebration filled with activities that the Friends help provide.
