Woman Hit And Killed By TRE Train In Irving

CBSDFW.com reports that a Trinity Railway Express train hit and killed a woman who investigators say appears to have been trying to beat the train across the tracks.

Service was suspended this past Saturday for nearly three hours due to the investigation.

According to DART officials, witnesses told investigators the woman, believed to be in her 40s, was walking south on Nursery Road in Irving when she came to the railroad tracks.

Witnesses say the crossing arms were down, the lights were flashing, and the train was sounding its horn. DART confirmed all of the warning signals were properly working at the time.

According to witness reports, the woman stopped at the tracks and then was spotted trying to run across the tracks in the front of the eastbound train.

The train was in route to Dallas with 260 passengers on board. None of them were injured.

Most, like Andre Jones, initially didn’t even realize what happened.

“We didn’t feel no impact or nothing like that,” he said. “The train just came to a stop all of a sudden and they pretty much told us something happened medically.”

Passengers were stuck for nearly two hours as the train sat idle on the tracks before they were put on another train.

This is the first fatality involving a TRE train since March 18, 2014, when a person was killed while walking on the tracks near the Medical/Market Center Station in Dallas.

The victim has not been identified.

DART and Irving police are investigating the fatality accident.
