Irving Trap Tests Positive for West Nile

Irving Area Being Sprayed

The City of Irving's in-house testing system has identified West Nile in a sample of mosquitos trapped and tested May 27.

The city is spraying the area in the attached map and will spray for three nights which includes South of Irving Boulevard and Story Rd near the Rock Island intersections at Story Rd and MacArthur Boulevard.

City officials advise residents to protect themselves from this mosquito-transmitted disease by following the Four D's:

  • Dusk/Dawn – the times of day to stay indoors.
  • Dress – wear long sleeves and long pants when outdoors during these times.
  • DEET – an ingredient to look for when purchasing and using insect repellent.
  • Drain – minimize outside standing water so it does not become a mosquito breeding site.

Additionally, the city of Irving is offering free Mosquito Dunks at Irving recreation centers, at Heritage Senior Center and at Irving City Hall. The product is used in standing water to kill mosquito larvae and lasts up to 30 days. The products are free and are available one per household.

Residents also can contact the city’s mosquito hotline - (972) 721-3755 - with tips on any stagnant water or mosquito activity in their neighborhood or around the city.
