Irving Police Officer Injured By Rocochet At Firing Range

This morning at approximately 11:09 a.m., an Irving police officer was injured during a training session at a local firing range.  The officer was standing alongside an officer who was firing a handgun at a target approximately fifteen feet away.  Fragments from a discharged round ricocheted and struck the officer in the hand, then traveled up his arm.  Other officers rendered first-aid and transported the officer to a nearby hospital for treatment.  His injury is not considered life-threatening and he is expected to be released later today.

The injured officer is Graham Smith who is a member of the Irving S.W.A.T. team and has been employed with Irving PD since 1990.
