Two years ago, media personality Glenn Beck purchased The Studios of Las Colinas, transforming what was once the home of films Robocop, JFK and Silkwood and television shows Prison Break and Walker Texas Ranger into expansive offices and studios. The complex is now called Mercury Studios.
From Irving, Beck runs his network, which includes radio, television, online news, publishing and a clothing company. He also runs a nonprofit called Mercury One, which focuses on disaster relief, education, veterans and Israel. This year, the nonprofit started the Nazarene Fund that helps remove Christian families from danger.
To help raise funds for his nonprofit work, Beck held his first Mercury One Gala on Nov. 13. The event started at his studios with tours of his offices and memorabilia. He is an avid collector of historical items. The event continued at the Omni Park West with a dinner, live auction and entertainment by Hunter Sullivan.
At the Omni, author and commentator Johnnie Moore gave a short address and artist Rolando Diaz did a live painting which was auctioned off. Honorary event chairs were Chuck and Gena Norris. Among the guests were Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne, Al Zapanta of the U.S. Mexico Chamber, Rick Bidne of the Las Colinas Association and Teddie Story of Irving Cares.
