City of Irving Issues Response to Newport Apartment Flood

The city of Irving is working diligently with multiple religious, nonprofit and for profit organizations to help those affected by the June 1 flood at the Newport Apartments.  The flood occurred when an aging pipe broke and water flowed from a nearby water tower.

Yesterday, the City of Irving's independent third party administrator, Tristar Risk Management, notified Newport Apartment residents the city was not liable for the flood damage.

The city has reviewed Tristar's determination and understands that under state law the city if prohibited from paying these types of claims.

While some residents filed claims through their personal insurers, other residents who were affected filed claims with the city and listed needs.  Since the city is prohibited from covering the losses, the city and the Irving community are working with multiple organizations to coordinate other means of assistance.

The Irving Community Action Network (ICAN) is coordinating assistance to the residents.  Irving nonprofit Irving Cares, a member of the ICAN, is collecting financial contributions.  For those who would like to help financially, visit irvingcares.org and click on Newport Resident assistance.
