MacArthur High Evacuated Due to Suspicious Item Found in Locker

Shortly before 10 A.M. – Irving Police Department school resource officers at MacArthur High School were notified of a suspicious item found in an unused school locker. Officers examined the item and, out of an abundance of caution, notified the Department’s Bomb Squad. The area was cordoned off and the school was temporarily evacuated. Bomb squad technicians removed the item and took it to a secure location for further examination. The item was determined to be harmless.

This incident is under investigation by the Irving Police Department. MacArthur High School has returned to normal activities. 

According to the Irving ISD, MacArthur High School was evacuated today at around 11 a.m. out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our students and staff.

The evacuation was enacted so the Irving Police Department could appropriately respond to a suspicious-looking item discovered in an unassigned locker.

Students followed the correct procedures to report something out of the ordinary, and we appreciate the Irving Police Department’s prompt response. At the recommendation of the police department, the school was evacuated to allow experts to safely remove the item. The police have reassured us that the item was harmless.

The evacuation was lifted around 11:30 a.m. and students and staff returned to classes at that time.
