Representatives from Dr Pepper Snapple Group visited the Newcomer Academy on February 7 to visit with students about careers in the consumer products industry and to share some of their personal stories of how they overcame obstacles to become successful business leaders.
Jorge Villalpando explained how he went from cleaning toilets at the company to managing their Hispanic markets in Texas and Oklahoma. He emphasized the importance of working on improving their English fluency and taking advantage of opportunities as they arise because we do not know if they will be there in the future.
Jorge Fernandez, manager of the Hispanic markets in the aforementioned states, explained the structure of a consumer goods company such as Dr Pepper Snapple Group and discussed the functions of each role in the operations and sales departments. These speakers were another installment of the Newcomer Academy Professional Speaker Series, which aims to expand students’ horizons by exposing them to local business leaders with whom they share similar backgrounds, so that they can see the possibilities that exist for them in the professional world.
