Irving ISD Calendar April-May 2017

Irving ISD’s In-District Transfer Period –  closes today, April 3
Irving ISD is currently accepting requests for in-district transfers for the 2017-2018 school year. Please visit www.irvingisd.net/transfers for guidelines and instructions on how to submit a request using the new online application form. Transfer requests will be accepted through April 3 and are considered on a first-come, first-served basis. For questions, please contact Campus Operations PK-12 Office at 972-600-5023.

Gold Card Club Spring Series – April 5, May 3

Have grandparents who would like to learn more about our schools? Irving residents 65 and older are invited to get an inside look at Irving ISD schools and programs through the Gold Card Club Spring Series, meetings and tours held at various schools. Attendees will tour the school and meet the leaders and educators who are making a difference in Irving. The Gold Card Club meetings are scheduled as follows:

  • Wednesday, April 5, at Nimitz High School, 9:30 a.m.
  • Wednesday, May 3, at John Haley Elementary School, 8:30 a.m.

The meetings last approximately two hours and include a light breakfast, presentation by school staff and a tour of the campus. Space is limited to the first 50 people. To reserve a spot, visit www.irvingisd.net/goldcard or contact Suzanne Weller at 972-600-5200 or sweller@irvingisd.net.

Irving ISD Art Exhibits at Irving Arts Center – Spring 2017

The artwork of Irving ISD student artists will be on display at the Irving Arts Center through the spring as follows:

  • High school general exhibit: through April 10
    • Open house – Tuesday, April 4, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
  • High school senior portfolio exhibit: April 13-23
    • Open house – Tuesday, April 18, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

 

Irving ISD Teen Job Fair – Thursday, April 27

Students looking for an internship or job – part-time, full-time, summer or year round – are invited to the 2nd Annual Irving ISD Teen Job Fair from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 27, at the Irving ISD Administration Building, 2621 W. Airport Freeway. Students should bring a resume, be dressed for an interview and bring their school ID for admission.

Nimitz Farmers Market – Saturday, April 29

The ag science department at Nimitz High School will host a Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, to showcase the school’s student-run enterprises. Students operate Nimitz Pet Care, Nimitz Floral Design, Nimitz Horticulture and Nimitz Culinary, and they will be offering their services at the Farmers Market. Additionally, outside vendors from the community are invited to rent a booth. Run 4 The Dogs 5K – Saturday, April 29

The Irving High School student council is sponsoring Run 4 the Dogs 5K benefitting Search One K9 Search and Rescue Team on Saturday, April 29, at Mountain Creek Preserve (1000 E. Hunter Ferrell Rd., Irving, TX 75060). The race begins at 8 a.m. for runners without dogs and at 8:15 a.m. for runners with dogs. Pre-registration is $35 and includes a T-shirt. Teacher of the Year Celebration – Thursday, May 4

Irving ISD will honor campus Teachers of the Year and announce the two teachers selected as the Irving ISD Elementary Teacher of the Year and the Irving ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year at a celebration on Thursday, May 4, at Singley Academy. This event, which traditionally has been held in the fall, will now take place in the spring as one big celebration and unveiling of our 2017 District Teachers of the Year. Open to the public, the celebration begins with a reception at 6 p.m. followed by the program at 7 in the Singley Academy auditorium.

Immunization and Health Fair – Saturday, May 6

Irving ISD’s Clinic and Health Services Department, in conjunction with UT Southwestern Medical Center and UT Southwestern Pediatric Interest Group, will host an Immunization and Health Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, at Schulze Elementary School (1200 S. Irving Heights Dr.). There will be free or low-cost immunizations, free school physicals, vision and hearing exams, dental screenings, assistance in enrolling in Medicaid/CHIP/SNAP, prizes and games and a bike helmet giveaway. Parents will need to bring vaccination records and Medicaid card (if applicable).
