Irving PD Officer Shoots and Kills Suspect

The Irving Police Department is investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at approximately 6:18 a.m. in the 1400 block of S. Story Road.

Officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance after the female victim called 911 to report that the male suspect was trying to kill her with a knife.  Officers found that the suspect had cut the victim and barricaded  himself in an upstairs bedroom.

As soon as the officers arrived on scene they heard screaming from inside the home and proceeded to force open an exterior door. Once inside, officers then had to force open a bedroom door and found the suspect holding the victim at knifepoint. The suspect refused to comply with commands to drop two large knives and release the victim.

According to police, "a less-than-lethal use of force option was not effective."

Seing the imminent danger of being seriously injured or killed, an officer discharged his duty weapon striking the suspect.

The victim was transported to Parkland Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was also transported to Parkland Hospital but was pronounced deceased at approximately 7:15 a.m.

The officers involved in the situation were not injured. The identities of the suspect and officers are not being released at this time, pending further investigation.
