Irving ISD May Bond Funds Promise Exciting Changes: Election Day coming up

The Irving Independent School District (ISD) is a public school district in Irving which has a total of 38 schools; including 20 elementary schools, 8 middle schools, 5 high schools, 1 PreK-8 school, and 4 other schools. The district serves over 32,000 students and employs over 4,000 teachers and staff members. The ISD held a bond election in May of 2021 to collect funds for investing in diverse types of projects within the district. The collected amount of $701,750,000 was divided into five propositions which affected various areas at schools of the public district. The election day is coming up on May 6th, so in today’s article we will inform you on these five proposals, what they present and how they could impact on the area.

New Multi-Purpose Facilities Proposition

Proposition D of the ISD bond is dedicated towards sports, specifically football, soccer, baseball, softball, and track and field. As football is highly popular amongst the youth in Irving, the ISD bond has allocated forty-five million dollars towards this proposition. As we all know, sports are a rather popular activity in Irving with teams such as Irving Tigers, MacArthur Cardinals and Nimitz Vikings, whose results have improved and have achieved significant victories, as also predicted in Bovada football betting odds. It is understood that this option is aimed at providing opportunities for younger generations who are interested in pursuing careers in sports.

Technology Upgrades Proposition

The other proposition which is of high importance for district is proposition B with an allocation of 18 million dollars. This alternative is mainly aiming to improve the infrastructure, such as providing students and staff with computers, upgrading the network infrastructure, providing students and staff with secured high-speed access to Wi-Fi & internet and implementing cybersecurity systems. This is surely another option to consider when voting because it will directly affect the area, including the teachers and students at the public schools.

Replacement and Renovation Proposition

The biggest amount of money from the fund was given to proposition A with a total of 538.75 million dollars. This option is aiming to renovate the 32 of the remaining schools in the district, replace Barton ES, Farine ES and Crockett MS. This proposition is also affecting 2 baby universities which are tuition-based employee childcare centers. Additionally, the career and technical education center (CET) is included within this option. Apart from that, safety and security upgrades and fine arts transportation and equipment will be part of this proposition of the ISD bond.

Replacement of Student Transportation and Logistics Center

Proposition C proposed by ISD calls for action on the student transportation and logistics center. The current maintenance center is 77 years old and has significant infrastructure issues, with an FCI rating of only 75%, indicating poor condition. The center's roof and HVAC systems are beyond repair, the restrooms don't meet ADA standards, and it won't be able to house the 235 transportation employees who work there. However, adjacent land is available for immediate new construction, providing an opportunity to build a brand-new center that addresses all these issues.

New Performing Arts Center

This last proposition addresses the Performing Arts Center facility and has funding sum of 83 million dollars. The new school facility will have a stage for student performances and can be rented out for professional development. It can serve as a reunification site and will host musicals, concerts, and art shows. Students can stay as artists in residence, and it can help with inventory management and evaluations. As a result of all these issues, major renovations will be needed - especially since the current center won't be able to accommodate the 235 transportation employees who work there. However, there is some good news: there's some available land right next to the center, and it could be used to construct a brand-new center that will address all these problems. Overall, it'll be a hub of creativity and growth.

Conclusion

Overall, the Irving ISD provides a safe, supportive, and academically challenging environment for its students, with a focus on preparing them for success in college, career, and life. Apart from that, it should also be noted that all the propositions presented by the Irving Independent School District Bond are of great importance and impact to our school district area. The afore-mentioned alternatives are all notable examples of how we could make use of the funds for improving the facilities within the school district area, which will make the staff and students’ life way easier. Hence, it is highly encouraged that you make your voice heard in the upcoming elections for one of the propositions which were put forward.
