Parent Liaison at MacArthur High School Honored for Outstanding Community Service

Lucinda Gonzalez

Lucinda Gonzalez, dedicated parent liaison at MacArthur High School, was recently awarded the Honda Community Helper Appreciation Award at the MacArthur/Irving football game. Gonzalez, known for her unwavering commitment to creating a supportive school environment, has been recognized by her colleagues and community for her outstanding contributions.

In her role as parent liaison, Gonzalez serves as a crucial link between the school and the parent community. From organizing volunteers for events like Homecoming and Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations to assisting parents in navigating the online portal for grades and attendance, Gonzalez strives to empower parents with skills and knowledge.

Gonzalez's efforts extend beyond event planning. She operates a clothing closet, a food pantry, and a safe space for students to reset in the MacArthur Parent Center. Her goal is not only to provide resources but also to foster a sense of community and belonging for both students and parents.

Principal Natasha Stewart praised Gonzalez as an ambassador for the campus and Irving ISD as a whole, emphasizing her selfless dedication to encouraging, assisting, and empowering parents in their children's educational journey.

Gonzalez's benevolence has not gone unnoticed by her colleagues. MacArthur Athletic Coordinator/Head Football Coach Beck Nitcholas nominated her for the Honda Community Helper Appreciation Award, highlighting her consistent willingness to go above and beyond to help anyone in need.

Acknowledging the challenges of engaging parents at the high school level, Gonzalez emphasized the importance of bonding and connecting with students during their crucial adolescent years. She expressed a desire to establish an official Parent-Teacher Organization chapter, recruit more volunteer dads, and maintain the Parent Center's Diamond Level status awarded by the district's Parent Education and Community Engagement team.

Gonzalez remains optimistic about the future, eager to see the MacArthur Parent Center grow and continue making a positive impact on the school community.
