Nexstar Media to Mark Dr. Martin Luther King Day With Special Programming Featuring His Only Grandchild

Nexstar Media Group, Inc. has revealed plans to broadcast "A Granddaughter's Dream," a special tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Coretta Scott King, on all its owned or partner television stations starting Saturday, January 13. The half-hour program, coinciding with the national celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Day, features 15-year-old Yolanda Renee King, the only grandchild of the iconic civil rights leader and his wife.

Yolanda King, who recently authored a picture book titled "We Dream a World: Carrying the Light From My Grandparents Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King," describes the publication as a love letter to her grandparents. Reporter/Anchor Donna Terrell of KLRT-TV (Fox16) in Little Rock, Arkansas, conducted an in-depth interview with Ms. King and her mother, Arndrea Waters King, President of the Drum Major Institute, on the campus of Spelman College, a historically black college attended by five generations of women in the King family.

In the interview, Yolanda King expresses her belief in being called to fulfill her grandfather's dream, discussing the influence of her grandparents and the significance of the King family legacy. The determined teenager emphasizes the need for a new generation to carry on the legacy and raise their voices, a mission she has been undertaking since the age of nine.

Nexstar's owned or partner television stations will commence airing "A Granddaughter's Dream" on Saturday, January 13, with specific times listed for different markets, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, Houston, and Washington, D.C., among others.

In Dallas, it will air at 6:30 pm on KDAF-TV (channel 33).

In addition to the special programming, the Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation has announced a $10,000 donation to the Drum Major Institute to commemorate this year's holiday and honor the enduring legacy of Dr. King.
