Deadline Looms: Last Chance to Secure Health Insurance for 2024 through Federal Marketplace

Time is running out for individuals seeking health insurance for the new year. The open enrollment period for 2024 coverage on the federal health insurance marketplace, established by the Affordable Care Act (ACA), will conclude on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

The Marketplace offers a platform for individuals to explore health coverage options and select plans available in their respective areas. It also determines eligibility for coverage through Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for individuals and their families.

For comprehensive information on the Marketplace, the primary resource is www.healthcare.gov, accessible 24/7. The website provides details on how the Marketplace operates, its advantages, and crucial deadlines. Additionally, individuals can contact 1-800-318-2596 to connect with trained customer service representatives around the clock.

For those in need of assistance, Parkland Health has certified application counselors available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, at Parkland’s Financial Services Office, located at 2021 Medical District Drive, Dallas, 75235, on the street level of the Parkland Tower Garage. While they don't assist in plan selection, counselors can help with the website and the 800 number, and inform individuals about plans contracted with Parkland.

In collaboration with United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, Parkland has also trained healthcare navigators for ACA enrollment at various community partners, including CitySquare, Community Council of Greater Dallas, Los Barrios Unidos Health Clinic, and PrismHealth North Texas.

If you miss the 2024 open enrollment period and do not qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP), you will have to wait until open enrollment begins for 2025.
