Grapevine Woman Arrested for Murder in Fentanyl Overdose Death of Former Tarrant County Judge

Kami Ludwig

Grapevine Police have filed a murder case connected to a fentanyl overdose. 35-year-old Kami Ludwig faces charges for Murder and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

On November 20, 2023, Grapevine Police responded to a home in the 4100 block of Mapleridge Drive for a death investigation. The victim, 47-year-old William Shane Nolen, a former Tarrant County Judge, was discovered deceased in his bedroom with signs consistent with an opioid overdose. Detectives additionally located several pills.

Kami Ludwig, who initially called 9-1-1 and identified herself as Nolen’s girlfriend, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

Detectives with Grapevine Police and the Mid-Cities Drug Task Force began investigating the case. They were able to find evidence that Ludwig purchased fentanyl-laced pills and supplied them to Nolen.

Grapevine Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the murder charge against Kami Ludwig on February 9, 2024. Ludwig turned herself in to Tarrant County on February 12, 2024.

A new Texas law went into effect on September 1, 2023, creating a criminal offense of murder for supplying fentanyl that results in death.
