Fort Worth City Employee Terminated Following Arson Incident and Drug Arrest

Frederick Lamond Harris, an employee of the City of Fort Worth Park & Recreation department at the Southwest Community Center, was terminated from his position on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. This action follows a criminal investigation into an arson incident that occurred earlier this month.

On June 3, 2024, Fort Worth police responded to reports of a vehicle fire at an apartment complex, prompting an investigation by the Fort Worth Fire Department’s Arson Investigation Division. Subsequent inquiries led to a warrant for Harris’ arrest in connection with the arson of the vehicle.

During Harris’ arrest today, he was found to be in possession of drugs packaged for sale. As a result, the City of Fort Worth’s Human Resources Department swiftly ended his employment, which had spanned five months.

Harris faces felony arson charges locally, along with additional state and federal charges related to drug possession. Fort Worth Fire Department Chief Jim Davis emphasized the seriousness with which such actions are taken, stating, “In Fort Worth, we take using fire as a weapon very seriously. In such cases, we will find you and we will prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law.”

The City of Fort Worth reiterated its commitment to upholding standards of professionalism and accountability among its employees. The Park & Recreation department affirmed its dedication to transparency with the community, emphasizing that actions like Harris’ do not reflect the values or conduct expected from city employees.
