Arlington Police Investigate Fatality Crash Involving Fleeing Driver

The Arlington Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that resulted in the death of a driver who was reportedly fleeing from another accident he caused minutes earlier.

On Friday, June 14, 2024, at approximately 6:57 p.m., officers responded to the 1200 block of W. Division Street to investigate a two-vehicle collision. Witnesses reported that the driver, an adult male, was traveling westbound on Division Street at a high rate of speed. He ran a red light at the intersection with N. Davis Drive, began swerving, and crossed into the eastbound lanes where he collided with a bus.

The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators have not yet identified him.

The bus driver, who was the only occupant of the bus, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

During the investigation, officers discovered that the same vehicle had been involved in another accident a few minutes earlier in the 600 block of W. Division Street. The driver of a Ford F-150 reported that she was rear-ended by the suspect near the traffic light at Division Street and Cooper Street. When she suggested calling the police due to concerns he might be intoxicated, the suspect fled westbound on Division Street. The F-150 driver attempted to follow him and arrived at the scene of the fatal crash.

Alcohol containers were found inside the suspect's vehicle.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the deceased once he has been positively identified and next of kin have been notified.
