Man Charged with Murder in Denton Fentanyl Overdose Case

Pedro Martinez

A 31-year-old man has been charged with murder following a Denton Police Department investigation into a fatal fentanyl overdose.

On January 21, 2024, officers responded to a report of an unconscious person in the 500 block of Inman Street. The victim, a 26-year-old male, was declared deceased at the scene. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be combined cocaine and fentanyl toxicity.

Denton PD detectives discovered that the victim had obtained narcotics containing fentanyl from a co-worker, Pedro Martinez. Detectives interviewed Martinez at the Denton County Jail, where he was being held on other charges. Martinez admitted to selling the narcotics to the victim and knowing they contained fentanyl.

On Tuesday, June 18, detectives obtained a warrant charging Martinez with murder. Martinez remains in the Denton County Jail, with bail not yet set.
