Fort Worth's Lake Como Cemetery Honored with Historic Marker by Texas Historical Commission

The Texas Historical Commission (THC) has bestowed the Lake Como Community Cemetery with a prestigious honor, marking it as an Official Historic Texas Cemetery. This recognition highlights the cemetery's significant role in Texas history and its architectural integrity, enriching public awareness of the community's past.

The designation as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark underscores the cemetery's importance in preserving historical events and providing insights into past religions, lifestyles, and genealogy. Cemeteries like Lake Como serve as crucial reminders of Texas' heritage amid modern development pressures that often threaten their preservation.

To celebrate this milestone, a public dedication ceremony is scheduled for July 6th at 10 a.m., located at 5801 Helmick Ave., with a reception to follow at the Como Community Center. The event will feature speeches from Como community members, Tarrant County Historic and Genealogical Society representatives, and other dignitaries, honoring the cemetery's enduring legacy.

The Historic Texas Cemetery designation by the THC aims to safeguard such important sites by recording cemetery boundaries in county deed records. This measure ensures that present and future landowners are aware of the cemetery's existence, helping to protect these invaluable historical resources for generations to come.
