On June 28, 2024, at approximately 6:45 pm, Dallas Police responded to a disturbance in the area of 5850 Beltline Road in Far North Dallas near Preston Road.
Upon arrival, officers found a man who had committed an aggravated assault involving family violence with a knife. The suspect and a woman were located inside a tent in a wooded area. Officers engaged with the suspect, attempting to get him to drop the knife.
The woman exited the tent, and officers used less lethal methods to gain the suspect's compliance. However, the suspect moved toward the officers with the knife in hand, prompting officers to fire their weapons. The suspect was struck and taken to a local hospital in critical condition, where he later died.
The woman was also taken to a local hospital for treatment and was not seriously injured. No officers were injured in the incident.
The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and Office of Community Police Oversight were notified and responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing and documented under case number 099549-2024.
