In the early morning hours of Saturday, July 6, 2024, a tragic accident occurred on the northbound SH-121 exit ramp to eastbound I-635. At around 5:30 a.m., a tractor trailer driver failed to negotiate the exit curve, resulting in a collision with the left-side guardrail followed by the vehicle overturning in the median. The driver, identified as a 62-year-old Luiz Carlos Camargo from Plano, was found deceased at the scene upon the arrival of law enforcement officers.
According to Grapevine Police Department officials, preliminary investigations suggest that both excessive speed and a flat tire were contributing factors to the incident.
Following the crash, the eastbound exit onto I-635 was closed for approximately six hours to facilitate cleanup and investigation efforts. The roadway reopened to traffic shortly before noon on Saturday.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
