Suspect in Stolen Vehicle Pursuit Shot By Officers After Attempted Carjacking in Fort Worth

On Thursday, July 11, 2024, at approximately 5:00 PM, Fort Worth Police Officers were alerted by FLOCK regarding a stolen vehicle. Officers quickly located the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, leading to a pursuit due to the suspect's reckless driving.

During the chase, the stolen vehicle rammed into one of the officer's patrol units. In response, officers deployed spike strips, which caused the suspect to crash in a parking lot near the intersection of NW 28th and McKinney Avenue.

Following the crash, the suspect exited the vehicle armed with a long gun and approached an individual in a white SUV, attempting to carjack the vehicle while threatening the civilian with the weapon. Officers engaged the suspect as he entered the carjacked vehicle, believing him to be an ongoing threat to the public.

Multiple officers fired at the suspect, who exited the vehicle while still armed and pointed the long gun toward a nearby business filled with people. Officers continued to issue commands for the suspect to drop the weapon, but he refused, resulting in further shots being fired.

The suspect was wounded and ultimately dropped the weapon. Officers took him into custody and provided medical assistance. He was transported to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition. No officers or civilians were injured during the incident.

The suspect, described as an adult Hispanic male, has not yet been identified. The investigation is ongoing, and details may change as the situation develops.

"This is another example of how unpredictable and dangerous the job of a police officer is," said Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes.
