Woman Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for Murder of Boyfriend

A 43-year-old woman, Shamkea Khalid, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the shooting death of her boyfriend, 45-year-old Eric Barber, in South Dallas.

The incident occurred at a party where Khalid began fighting with other attendees. As the confrontation escalated, she turned her anger towards Barber. The argument continued outside at a car wash located in the 4500 block of Elsie Fay Higgins Street. During the altercation, Khalid shot Barber and fled the scene. Witnesses at the scene provided descriptions to the Dallas Police Department, which led to her capture.

The case was prosecuted by lead attorney Adam Seiffert, with Jerry Varney serving as second chair. LaUnice Jackson acted as the DA investigator, and Shelby Randle was the DA victim advocate. The investigation was conducted by the Dallas Police Department.

After deliberations, the jury found Khalid guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter. She has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
