On July 15, 2024, at approximately 3:10 p.m., Dallas Fire and Rescue (DFR) responded to a call for a health and welfare check in the 3400 block of Mahanna Street, near the Lemmon Avenue intersection.
The preliminary investigation determined that DFR forced entry into the apartment and found 26-year-old Solmaira Vazquez Castillo in the bathroom, having been stabbed. DFR also found 38-year-old Hector Tovar Marquez unresponsive in a bedroom closet. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Further investigation determined that Tovar Marquez had stabbed Vazquez Castillo before committing suicide. The victim and suspect were known to one another.
The investigation is ongoing and is documented under case numbers 108667-2024 and 108883-2024.
