Driver Sentenced to 10 Years for Fatal Street Racing Crash That Killed Three in Fort Worth

Nelson Ramirez at court

On July 15, 2024, a Tarrant County court sentenced 21-year-old Nelson Ramirez to 10 years in prison for killing three people while street racing in Fort Worth. The charges included three counts of Manslaughter and Racing on Highway Causing Serious Bodily Injury. Although Ramirez was eligible for probation, the court imposed a stiffer sentence due to the tragic consequences of his actions.

On November 30, 2022, Ramirez was driving a truck and racing another vehicle down River Oaks Blvd in Sansom Park at 93 mph, where the speed limit is 40 mph. Ramirez, then 19 years old, collided with another car, resulting in the deaths of 37-year-old Cindy Griffin, 17-year-old Madison Lake, and 20-year-old Bishop Allen Kline, who succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The other driver involved in the race was a juvenile.

The Fort Worth Police Department conducted the investigation. The prosecutors in the case were Chris Dewitt and Jeanne Truglio.
