Denton Jail Employee Arrested for Official Oppression After Sexual Misconduct Investigation

Miguel Mederos

The Denton Police Department has arrested a City of Denton Jail employee for official oppression following an investigation into misconduct involving an inmate.

On July 17, 2024, an adult female victim reported that civilian jailer Miguel Mederos, 22, offered her a ride to her vehicle after her release from the City of Denton Jail on January 2, 2023. The victim accepted the offer and alleged that Mederos made several sexual statements toward her during the ride and subsequently sent sexual messages that night.

Upon receiving the report, the Denton Police Department placed Mederos on administrative leave. After reviewing evidence and conducting interviews, detectives concluded that Mederos, acting in his official capacity, subjected the victim to sexual harassment by soliciting sexual favors.

On July 23, 2024, Mederos was terminated from his position and arrested on a warrant for official oppression. He had been employed with the department since June 2022. Mederos is currently held in the Denton County Jail with a bond set at $2,500.

Interim Chief Jessica Robledo commented, “Our community is accustomed to a high level of police services, and it is essential that our actions reflect this reputation. The behavior of this individual is unfortunate and certainly does not represent the values of Denton’s law enforcement. All Denton PD employees are held to the highest of standards in our City and when their actions are inconsistent with this expectation, we have a duty to act swiftly. I want to acknowledge the thorough efforts of our detectives while affording a fair process to the involved member.”
