Celebrate Reopening of Eighth Street in Fort Worth After January Explosion Damage

Downtown Fort Worth Inc. invites the public to an Unblocking Party to celebrate the reopening of Eighth Street. The event will take place from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 25.

Event Details:

  • Location: Eighth Street, between Throckmorton and Houston streets.
  • History: Eighth Street has been closed since January due to an explosion at the nearby Sandman Hotel.

Activities and Giveaways:

  • Attendees will receive a free Downtown T-shirt, while supplies last.
  • The first 100 La’Creamian ice cream scoops are free, courtesy of The Sandman Signature Hotel.
  • A musical duo will provide live entertainment.
  • Participants can enter to win an Eighth Street package, which includes:
    • Two Downtown Cowtown Segway tours.
    • A $50 gift card to The Archibald.
    • A $50 gift card to Thompson's.
    • A book package from Barber's Bookstore.

Background: Businesses on Eighth Street between Throckmorton and Houston streets were affected by the explosion and its aftermath. The City’s Economic Development Department, in collaboration with the Local Development Corporation, provided over $137,000 in grants to four small businesses in the area to help mitigate revenue loss during the cleanup efforts.
