At approximately 12:21 PM today, officers from the Midlothian Police Department responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on the 1400 block of southbound East State Highway 287. Multiple 911 callers alerted authorities to the incident.

Upon arrival, officers found a male pedestrian lying on the roadway and a gray Ford F-150 pickup with significant front-end damage. Witnesses, including the driver of the pickup, reported that the pedestrian had been standing in the center median of Highway 287 near the Midlothian Parkway bridge before suddenly jumping in front of the moving vehicle. The driver was unable to avoid the collision.

The 48-year-old male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers, along with a Chaplain, are notifying the deceased’s family.

The investigation is ongoing, and no criminal charges have been filed. Southbound State Highway 287 was closed for about two hours, and the Midlothian Parkway bridge was closed for several minutes. All roadways have since been reopened.
