The Irving YMCA has been given a facelift. A $50,000 donation from CBS Outdoor has led to a new look and new hope.
“I think we’ve had a lot of folks over the years that have probably stepped away from the ‘Y’ because it wasn’t changing with the times,” said Irving YMCA Executive Director Doug Fox. “I think when the community sees these changes and the direction we’re heading in, it’s going to help us impact more families. That’s really what we’re about.”
New carpet and ceiling tiles, an updated welcome center, and energy-efficient lighting have helped revitalize a building that is more than 50 years old.
“The renovations have made this more welcoming,” said resident Joshua Chowritmootoo. “It’s more facilitating and it lends to the environment that is so supportive of the activities that we do here. The YMCA is the anchor of good values in the community.”
