Irving ISD serves the city of Irving in Dallas County, enrolling roughly 33,000 students across approximately 37 to 38 campuses. The district is known for dual-language programs, career and technical education pathways, and strong fine arts offerings, and has continued expanding bilingual education and college-readiness initiatives in recent years.

2026-2027 School Year Key Dates

• First day of school: August 11, 2026
• Fall Break: October 9-12, followed by a Teacher Workday on October 13, effectively creating a five-day break including the weekend
• Early November days off: November 2 and 3 — not tied to a major holiday, so it's easy to miss when planning childcare
• Thanksgiving Break: Late November (check the district calendar for exact dates each year)
• Winter/Christmas Break: December 21, 2026 through January 1, 2027
• Spring Break: March 15-19, 2027
• Last day of school: May 27, 2027
• Total instructional days: 180

How Enrollment Works

All students — new and returning — must register online each year. Online registration for the 2026-2027 school year opened April 1. New families will need to create an account and submit the following documents:

• A parent or guardian's valid photo ID (driver's license or passport)
• The child's proof of age (official birth certificate or passport)
• Current immunization records
• Previous report cards, if applicable
• Proof of residence (a lease, or a gas, water, or electric bill in the parent's name — phone and cable bills are not accepted)

Each child enrolling in the district needs a separate registration submission, since the information collected is student-specific. A valid email address is required to register; families without one can create a free account through Outlook or Gmail.

Before the First Day

Campuses typically begin taking calls from parents with specific school-level questions about two weeks before the first day of school. If you've recently moved into the district, you'll need to verify your new address with an accepted proof-of-residence document, along with valid ID showing the correct address, before your child's registration is finalized.

Choosing the Right Campus

Attendance is generally determined by home address, but Irving ISD offers magnet and choice programs, including options like Uplift Education-North Hills and Great Hearts Irving Upper, that families sometimes apply to outside their zoned campus.
