Of the many Irving-based, Fortune Magazine-ranked companies, engineering giant Fluor Corporation knows the importance of building on a good foundation. Fluor projects are currently under construction around the globe.

With its philanthropy, Fluor also seeks to lay a strong foundation. For example, since 2007 Fluor has donated $43,500 in support of the Irving Dental Center.
“Fluor has been a leading contributor to the Irving Dental Center, which is one of the five local charities for which our foundation raises funds,” explains John Drake, president of the Irving Healthcare Foundation. “The base they laid with their generous giving was to help start Irving’s first gift-subsidized dental clinic for the needy and then get these patients to baseline dental health. There was no low-cost dental option in Irving until 2007, so their gift was critically important.”

The company’s employees have also volunteered hundreds of hours in support of Our Children’s House at Baylor Irving. Drake added, “By helping at OCHI, Fluor Corporation invested hours of their employees’ talents to help renovate and paint a library and the main corridor at the center. This is a childcare center where children with medical and developmental needs, such as Down syndrome or autism, receive highly specialized education and therapy in order to be ready for kindergarten. It’s about laying a foundation for learning and maximum ability, and we are so thankful for this company.”

“As a global company, we recognize how important it is to ensure that people have access to basic needs, regardless of where they live,” Torrence Robinson, senior director, Community Affairs & Fluor Foundation said. “By supporting the Irving Dental Center, we are not only helping to provide dental care to those in need, but we are helping to improve the quality of life for families.”
