It took two years and millions of dollars, but Toyota of Irving has completed an expansion of its dealership that nearly doubled the size of its wheeling and dealing office and showroom.
The project took the 49,000-square-foot facility at 1999 W. Airport Freeway in Irving to nearly 80,000 square feet of space.
As one of the oldest Toyota dealerships in the region, Toyota of Irving’s renovation of the facility better serves its customers and provided a number of construction jobs while the work was taking place, Gulf States Toyota President and General Manager Marty Collins said.
Collins were to present the owners of Toyota of Irving — father and son duo David and Vernon Schoemaker — with a Katana samurai sword (a Toyota tradition) in honor of the expanded facility at a ribbon cutting held Thursday afternoon.
The remodel of the facility expands the service department by 70 percent with 55 retooled service bays, four express lube bays, six detail bays, new lifts and diagnostic equipment and two front-end alignment racks.
Toyota North America, a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corp. (NYSE: TM), is building its new $350 million North American headquarters campus in Plano, with the expectation of moving 4,000 jobs from throughout North America to the region by 2017.
