Keyes Elementary School joined hundreds of schools across the U.S. to celebrate National Million Father March Day this morning. Fathers, grandfathers, brothers, uncles and mentors gathered in the cafeteria with students for “Donuts with Dad,” an event recognizing the impact positive male figures have on youth and their education.
Following breakfast, Principal Blanca De La Sierra and Parent Liaison Maria Martinez led the group of men in a presentation and a pledge to serve and volunteer throughout the school year. Now in its 12th year, The Black Star Project’s Million Father March Day has become a growing initiative that is gaining national participation with each passing year.
Schools like Keyes Elementary School aim to increase the involvement of fathers and men with the belief that their presence helps improve learning and academic achievement for all children.
