Child Accidentally Shoots Self In the Chest

On Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at about 11:33pm, Fort Worth officers were dispatched to a house in the 2600 block of Aiken Lane in reference to a shooting. Fort Worth Fire Department and MedStar personnel also responded. 

Upon arrival, officers learned this shooting involved a child victim. Officers observed that the young girl had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. The mother of the victim stated that the victim may have accessed the firearm from an unsecured drawer, removed it and discharged it, striking herself in the chest. 

The victim was transported to Cook Children’s Medical Center in stable condition for medical treatment of possible life-threatening injuries.  There is no suspect in custody and the Crimes Against Children’s Unit has been notified and requested to respond.

The investigation is ongoing.
