DFW Airport Joins Global Initiative to Achieve Net-Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050

Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) has made a significant commitment to the fight against climate change by joining forces with the World Economic Forum (WEF) and Airports Council International (ACI) in a new initiative aimed at achieving net-zero carbon emissions in the aviation industry by 2050. The announcement was made by DFW Airport CEO Sean Donohue, who is among more than 30 industry leaders participating in The Airports of Tomorrow initiative.

The Airports of Tomorrow initiative was unveiled during the ACI Europe / ACI World Annual General Assembly in Barcelona, Spain. This collaborative effort aims to leverage the power and influence of airports to facilitate the transformation of the aviation industry towards sustainability. By making strategic planning and investment decisions today, the initiative seeks to shape a sustainable future for aviation and set an example for other sectors, both public and private.

Sean Donohue, CEO of DFW Airport, emphasized the importance of airports in driving the industry's sustainability transformation, stating, "Airports serve as powerful cornerstones of the aviation ecosystem where we can unite, collaborate and facilitate the industry's sustainability transformation." Donohue further expressed his dedication to harnessing the opportunities presented by initiatives like Airports of Tomorrow, envisioning DFW Airport as a clean energy hub that sets the standard for a net-zero economy.

DFW Airport is already at the forefront of sustainability efforts, with its commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2030—two decades ahead of the global industry goal. Building upon its extensive experience and knowledge in this area, DFW will actively support Airports of Tomorrow by assisting airports in making operational and infrastructure changes necessary for achieving net-zero aviation. The initiative will focus on areas such as infrastructure development, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) adoption, innovative sustainable finance solutions for airports, and startup challenges designed to attract new innovative firms to the World Economic Forum community.

As North America's first and the world's largest carbon-neutral airport, DFW will play a pivotal role in sharing best practices, exploring new discoveries, and actively participating in this global sustainability initiative. By collaborating with industry leaders and leveraging its expertise, DFW Airport aims to lead the way in transforming the aviation industry into a greener and more sustainable sector, leaving a positive impact on the environment for generations to come.
