Lewisville Lake Park Closed Indefinitely for Safety Reasons Following Recent Drownings

In response to a series of recent incidents, including two tragic drownings, Lewisville Lake Park has been closed indefinitely to public access. City officials have taken this precautionary step to address safety concerns and prevent further accidents within the park.

The closure encompasses the popular swim beach and its adjoining areas, as indicated on the official map provided by city authorities. The decision to close the swim beach comes after a thorough evaluation of the potential risks posed by lower lake levels and a receding shoreline, which have heightened the dangers associated with swimming and wading.

Warning signs in both English and Spanish have been prominently displayed in the affected area, serving as a reminder of the potential hazards. City authorities are emphatically urging all park-goers to respect these warnings and avoid any attempts to bypass barricades or signs.

Furthermore, city officials are advocating for the use of life jackets as a vital safety measure for anyone venturing into the water. Free life jacket loaner stations have been set up at both Lewisville Lake Park and Tower Bay, providing easy access to this essential piece of safety equipment. Officials emphasize that wearing a life jacket significantly reduces the risk of drowning and encourages all visitors to make use of this resource.

The closure will remain in effect until a "more lasting solution can be identified by park and public safety personnel.", said city officials.
