On October 28, 2023, at 11:28 pm, Irving Patrol Officers were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of N. Beltline Rd. and Strait St, near Rochelle Rd.
A DWI Unit officer was first on the scene and found a critically injured driver in one vehicle and the second vehicle unoccupied.
Witnesses observed a blue Chevy truck run a red light and strike the silver Honda’s driver’s side. Two occupants fled the suspect vehicle and were apprehended a short distance away. One of them was the driver, Jorge Colunga, who was found intoxicated and was arrested.
The other driver died at the scene and was identified as 65-year-old Santos Carlos Alvarez-Reyes.
The DWI Unit, Crash Investigations Unit, and Crime Scene all responded.
32-year-old Jorge Colunga has been charged with Intoxication Manslaughter, Failure to Stop and Render Aid (FSRA), and evading arrest.
Bond amount has been set at a total of $129,000 for all three charges.
