DFW Airport Expects Record Holiday Travel with 4.5 Million Customers

Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) anticipates a bustling holiday season, projecting 4.5 million customers traveling through the airport from December 14 to January 2. This marks a 4.8% increase compared to last year, potentially setting new holiday travel records.

The busiest days are forecasted to be Friday, December 22, with over 246,000 customers, followed by Friday, December 15, with more than 244,000 people, and Thursday, December 21, with over 243,000 travelers. DFW advises travelers and those dropping off or picking up family members to be prepared for increased traffic during this period.

To facilitate smoother travel, DFW suggests arriving at least two hours before flights. For drivers, 1- or 2-hour parking spots near each terminal's curbs are available, as well as free cell phone lots on the north and south sides of the airport. The airport emphasizes that curbs are for immediate drop-off and pick-up only.

In an effort to enhance the holiday experience, DFW will host Festive Fridays throughout December, featuring live local musical groups and artists inside the terminals. Additionally, on December 21, the airport’s therapy dog team, the K9 Crew, will hold a holiday-themed Paw Parade in Terminal D at 11:30 a.m.

During this busy travel period, DFW encourages the use of its app and website for navigation. Travelers can check parking occupancy levels, pre-book parking, and view TSA wait times. Pre-booked parking is expected to sell out quickly, particularly on peak travel dates.

DFW is currently undergoing construction projects as part of its modernization efforts, affecting Terminals C and D. Travelers are advised to be aware of ongoing work and follow signage, especially in the lower level of Terminal C, where construction will impact part of the roadway.

Passengers are reminded to check with their airline for the latest flight status before heading to DFW, ensuring a smooth start to their holiday journey.
