This month, American Airlines collaborated with the Gary Sinise Foundation for the annual Snowball Express event, dedicated to honoring those who have lost a loved one while serving in the nation's military. In a significant expansion, this year's event spanned two weeks and included families of fallen first responders for the first time.
American Airlines generously contributed charter aircraft and tickets on pre-scheduled flights to transport nearly 3,000 participants from around the world to Orlando, Florida. The destination provided the backdrop for an all-expenses-paid experience at Walt Disney World Resort.
Over a thousand American Airlines team members selflessly donated their time to ensure the Snowball Express event was a meaningful and memorable experience for the families of fallen heroes. Since 2006, these dedicated team members have volunteered to serve the families in the air or coordinate heartfelt gate-side sendoff ceremonies at airports nationwide.
For Dani Fernandez, who works in IT at American Airlines, volunteering for Snowball Express this year held a special significance. Having participated in Snowball Express as a child 11 years ago, Fernandez's journey came full circle as she dedicated her time to contribute to the event that once impacted her own life.
