American Airlines Shines in Winter Holiday Operations

American Airlines has demonstrated a robust operational performance, standing out among major carriers during the winter holiday travel period. Despite challenging weather conditions and increased air traffic control delays, the airline canceled the fewest flights and significantly improved on-time performance compared to the previous year.

David Seymour, American's Chief Operating Officer, expressed pride in the team's hard work, emphasizing the importance of delivering a safe and reliable operation. He acknowledged the critical roles played by federal partners, including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), in ensuring the success of the holiday travel period.

Key operational highlights for American Airlines during the winter holiday period, up to January 1, include:

  • Nearly 7.8 million customers were served across more than 71,000 flights since December 20, with the period concluding on January 8.

  • American led its major competitors in the completion factor, canceling the fewest number of flights. Notably, there were no cancellations for the first six days of the travel period, and only 16 mainline flights were canceled throughout the holiday period.

  • On-time departure and arrival performance improved by approximately 15% compared to the 2022 holiday period.

  • American's continued investments and focus on baggage handling yielded positive results, with a 66% improvement in the key metric measuring mishandled baggage compared to last year's holiday period.

The airline attributes its success to the dedication of its team members and the collaborative efforts with federal agencies to navigate through challenging circumstances.
