Beware of Phone Scam: Dallas County Officials Warn Against Fake Arrest Calls

The Dallas County Criminal District Attorney’s Office has issued a warning regarding a scam targeting members of the community. Reports have surfaced of individuals receiving calls from people claiming to represent the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office or other law enforcement agencies. The callers allege that there is a warrant for the recipient's arrest due to failure to appear for grand jury duty. They demand immediate payment to avoid arrest.

However, the DA’s Office stresses that this is a scam. Law enforcement agencies will never demand payment over the phone, through wire transfers, gift cards, or unaffiliated websites. Additionally, legitimate law enforcement officers will not threaten individuals or their families with further charges.

If receiving a call about a criminal or civil accusation that seems unfamiliar, it is likely fraudulent. Residents are urged not to make any payments through suspicious methods and to refrain from confirming personal information to the caller.

Anyone who suspects they have been targeted by this scam is encouraged to contact their local law enforcement agency.
