Man Arrested at Best Buy in Irving With a Firearm Sentenced to 16 Years in Prison

Nickolas Herndon was found guilty of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon in a case prosecuted by Leah Dintino and Dimitri Anagnostis. The trial, held in Dallas, saw the defendant plead guilty and opt for a jury sentence. Evidence presented by the State, led by Investigator John Schingle of the Dallas Police Department, included Herndon's arrest at an Irving Best Buy with a firearm on his person, less than five years after his release from prison.

The prosecution demonstrated Herndon's affiliation with a gang, multiple previous arrests involving firearms, and active involvement in drug dealing. Testimony from the responding officer in a 2016 Family Violence case, which resulted in Herndon's prior incarceration, revealed a harrowing incident where he fired shots into a car containing his ex-girlfriend, her new partner, and his own infant child.

The jury returned a verdict of guilty, and Herndon was sentenced to 16 years in prison.
