The Irving Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Sunday, June 2nd, at approximately 1:45 am at the 300 block of West Fork (The Shores at Las Colinas).
Preliminary investigations reveal that the victim and the suspect, 18-year-old Adrian Mendieta, were friends socializing with several other people at the location. Mendieta was handling a rifle that belonged to one of the witnesses present. He pointed the rifle at the victim and shot him. The victim, identified by the Dallas County Medical Examiner as 20-year-old Aiden Reese Turner of Roanoke, died at the scene.
All persons involved remained at the scene and cooperated with the responding officers.
Initially considered an accidental shooting, Mendieta has now been charged with murder.
Mendieta was taken into custody by Irving officers and booked into the Irving Jail at 3:35 am. The investigation is ongoing.
