Woman Armed with Knife Shot by North Richland Hills Police Officer

The North Richland Hills Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, in the 4200 Block of Rufe Snow Drive, near Glenview Drive, south of Loop 820.

At approximately 11:38 a.m., the police department received a third-party call about a person in crisis described as out of control. Upon arrival, officers observed a woman breaking items in a parking lot before she returned to her apartment. Officers attempted to make contact by knocking on her door. The woman exited and threatened an officer with a knife while advancing towards him. The officer responded by firing his service weapon, striking the woman.

Officers provided medical attention until paramedics arrived and transported the woman to a nearby hospital. She is currently listed in stable condition. No officers were injured in the incident.

Following standard procedure, two separate investigations have been initiated. The North Richland Hills Police Department Criminal Investigations Division will conduct a criminal investigation to review the incident and determine if any criminal offenses were committed. Additionally, the Professional Standards Office will investigate whether the involved officer followed departmental policies and procedures.

The officer involved has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcomes of these investigations.
