Suspect Captured in Irving Double Murder at Chick-fil-A

Oved Barnardo Mendoza-Argueta

The Irving Police Department has announced the capture of murder suspect Oved Barnardo Mendoza-Argueta. On Wednesday, June 26th, at approximately 4:00 pm, police responded to reports of shots fired at the Chick-fil-A restaurant near the intersection of M. MacArthur Blvd. and W. Walnut Hill Ln. Upon arrival, officers found two victims deceased.

Detectives quickly identified 37-year-old Mendoza-Argueta as the suspect in the killings, prompting a manhunt and a public appeal for assistance in locating him. Irving Police units worked throughout the evening and into the early morning hours, ultimately apprehending Mendoza-Argueta at approximately 2:50 am. He has been booked into the Irving City Jail and charged with capital murder.

Mendoza-Argueta, who is from El Salvador, has an ICE hold requested by INS due to his illegal status in the country. Preliminary investigation indicates that the shooting was targeted and not random.

One of the victims has been identified by the Dallas Medical Examiner as 49-year-old Patricia Portillo. According to a family member, Portillo was an employee at Chick-fil-A and single Mom.

The investigation is ongoing, and details may change as it progresses.

UPDATE: Two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon have been added Mendoza-Argueta's charges.

The second victim killed has been identified as 31-year-old Brayan Alexis Godoy.
