Dallas Comic Con Moves to its New Home at The Irving Convention Center

Dallas Comic Con moves to its new home, the 275,000 square-foot Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas, for its annual super-sized comic convention. Celebrate everything comic during this full weekend of artists, writers, publishers, actors, costume play and more! Hundreds of tables filled with comic books, t-shirts, collectibles, posters, books and much more will transform the Irving Convention Center exhibit hall into the largest Dallas Comic Con event since the convention’s debut in 1994.

“We’ve come a long way, developing a very large fan base that literally had us bursting at the seams,” said Ben Stevens, a partner in C2 Ventures, which also produces Sci-Fi Expo and Fan Days gatherings annually. “Some of our recent shows were so crowded, it was difficult to walk the hallways. This larger venue will solve that problem while allowing us to bring in more guests, vendors and special events.”

The fans seem just as excited, Stevens said, noting that VIP and Priority passes to the show sold out in record time. General admission tickets, which are still available at the door, provide all-day access to the exhibit hall and artist alley, and to the autograph area after VIP and Priority pass holders.

The 17th annual Dallas Comic Con convention will run Saturday, May 21 from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday, May 22 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. General admission is $20 at the door per day, and children 12 and under are free when accompanied with a paid adult. Parking is free with paid admission.

Topping the guest list are actors Leonard Nimoy and Carrie Fisher, comic book legend Stan Lee and artist John Romita Jr. Nimoy, famous for his role as the emotionless Mr. Spock in the original Star Trek series, will appear Saturday only. All other media guests are scheduled to sign autographs and visit with the fans both days, including Fisher, best known for her portrayal of Princess Leia in the Star Wars movies.

Members of the Zombie Survival Crew from AMC-TV’s The Walking Dead will be on hand. Other actors appearing are John Wesley Shipp (star of The Flash TV series), Tom Jane (Boogie Nights, Hung, The Punisher), Richard LeParmentier (“Admiral Motti” in Star Wars: A New Hope), Amanda Pays (“Tina” in The Flash), and  screenwriter and actor Todd Farmer (My Bloody Valentine, Jason X).

Stan “The Man” Lee is a comic book writer; an editor, actor, producer and publisher; and the former president and chairman of Marvel Comics. He co-created Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, X-Men, The Avengers, Iron Man, The Hulk and many others.

Romita’s first American comic book work was the Amazing Spider-Man Annual #11 in 1977. His other works include Uncanny X-Men, Daredevil, Punisher: War Zone, Thor, Wolverine and The Eternals, and his current project is The Avengers (soon to be a major motion picture).

Special guests will be joined by more than four dozen artists, including Bernie Wrightson, Ethan Van Sciver, Jimmy Palmiotti and Tim Bradstreet. For a complete list of artists, their works, celebrity schedules, and full event information, go to dallascomiccon.com.
